Sutter County Local Candidates
The is our missive regarding local candidates, specifically City Council and School Board and Local Measure “V”. That is “V” as in victim not the roman numeral “5.”
Yuba City Council: We have four people running, three are incumbents. The incumbents are Tej Maan, Kash Gill and Leslie McBride. Ms. McBride, in her local radio ads states, “I want to run the city like a business.” Well folks, businesses fail. Yuba City is failing. Tej Maan and Kash Gill, like McBride is spending big bucks running for a job that pays very little money. Our question is why? What is their hidden agenda? Ms. McBride is a Realtor and Mr. Gill is a loan officer. At least the bank Mr. Gill works for a bank that has not received any TARP money (that we know of), but it was taken over by the F.D.I.C. Since he was not at work when the takeover happened, just what did Mr. Gill know about the takeover? McBride and Gill at least have a stake in the Capitalist system, they actually work a 40 plus hour week and make a payroll. Unlike members of the Sacramento City Council, they have more experience running a successful business, a business other than a law office. One other candidate is a retired Yuba City Police Lieutenant .
John
Buckland has lived in Yuba City for, according to his campaign
literature, about 40 years. Unlike Gill and Maan (we
do not know about McBride), he has a longer standing by virtue of
residence and his former employment in making sure this
community is safe and growing. Our problems with Mr. Buckland are
as follows.
In 1997, a member of the Yuba City Police Department, one
Detective John Webster, groped an underage female. This was after
Mr. Webster pushed his way into the home. When the young lady's father
called the Mayor's office and the person who answered the phone was
livid and said, "Expect a call soon." Was this father apprised of his
rights to file an internal affairs complaint? No. Mr. Buckland
(or a person who claimed to be Mr. Buckland), under orders from someone
in the department contacted the underage female's father and basically
swept
it under the rug by saying, to the Father via
telephone, “You
better forget about it...you have to live up here...do you know what
I mean.” In the case of Mr. Buckland, his leadership (well, he was no
doubt following orders or protecting his friend with the "Blue Wall of
Silence") comes into question. Detective Webster should have
been fired. Instead, Webster has been promoted right on up the ranks to
assistant chief. Thus re-iterating the "Dilbert Principal of Business,"
which is this: promote a person to the highest place possible so their
incompetence will not interfer with the daily operation. Then
there are some of the characters that work for the
Yuba City Police. In one instance, one Eldon Lincoln, while talking to
a member of our group. Mr. Lincoln said to him, "Well, we know how you people are." It was not what Mr.
Lincoln said, it is the way he said, "You People." Although Mr.
Buckland may have not had any input into the content of a posters
that we saw at
Carl's Junior/ This poster contains pictures ofYuba City police
officers that boarder on scandalous.
Pictures of officers holding assault rifles, officers wearing mirror
glasses (in the shade), it hearkens pictures of Hitler's Nazi Germany
and S.S. recruitment posters. One thing that can be said to the
positive regarding Mr. Buckland's former employer, none of the members
of the Yuba City P.D. have not been selling drugs out of their patrol
cars (like Deputy Taylor in 1996 under Sheriff Branwood's watch), they
have not been arrested for stalking
their ex-wife (Michael Slayton, under Sheriff Denney's watch) or
investigated by the F.B.I or the Inspector General's Office for
excessive force (Sgt. Earl Glenn Mercer, also under sheriff Denney's watchful eye). One last
thing remains to be
said, Only
in
Yuba City.
These are not little yard signs.
These are big 3 foot by 5 foot (and expensive) signs. Note several
things. One, these signs to do say "Incumbent." I remember, years ago,
if a person was running for re-election, they would tout the fact that
you should "Re-elect" them for an office. As you can see from the
Leslie McBride sign, a smaller, more economical yard sign is to its
right. It should also be added that these candidates are not running as
"fiscal Conservatives." At least Mr. Buckland states, on his Facebook
page that he wants Yuba City to "live within its means" and he does not
want "new taxes or fees." Despite our news article about Mr. Buckland
above, he comes out and at least says what we like to hear. Buckland
also is not seeking endorsement-or money-from labor unions. Give
Buckland a shot and if Mr. Buckland turns our bad...remove him like we
should remove the above incumbents.
Sutter Lies recommendation: Do Not Vote for any Yuba City Council candidate that is an incumbent.
School Board: Specifically Yuba City Unified School District:
We have Kenneth Berri and Steven Schriven. Both retired teachers, only one is endorsed by Yuba City teacher, that is Mr. Berri. Mr. Berri was an Algebra and Geometry teacher at Yuba City High School for over thirty years. He is a nice guy. He is also a great bowler. Nothing against Steven Schriven but he is an incumbent, and we need to get rid of the people who made the mess.
Vote for Berri.
Sutter County Measure “V”. VOTE NO. Any time an elected official wants to pass an ordinance or tinker with major zoning issues without voter approval, we need to cut them off at the knees.
